Sofrimar, key member of Irish FIPs

FIPs are a worldwide initiative to improve fisheries and through that improvement secure access to markets. These markets increasingly demand that the fish they buy have sustainability plans in place. Irish FIPs involve fishermen & their representatives, processors, retailers, scientists and NGO’s working together to promote practical & sustainable fishery management. All of the Irish FIPs are funded by BIM.

Irish FIPs

9 species are covered by Irish FIPs: Haddock, Whiting, Prawn, Brown Crab, Coley, Hake, Tuna, Monk & Megrim. The majority of vessels landing these species are registered as FIP members.

Across all these FIPs the goals are to maintain a public record of the fishery’s environmental and social sustainability actions and that by 2030 the fisheries will meet any applicable certification standards.
